First
section:
begins with a bombastic medium
fast 16 bar_unison rhythm for full ensemble_ends on held note_into solo
trumpet w/fast up tempo swing accompaniment in the rhythm section, conductor
cues four two bar full ensemble backgrounds for soloist till cuing of
next part of suite, an 8 bar 4/4 swing line w/counterpoint and accents
for full ensemble to solo tenor sax cadenza, lasting about 2 minutes.
Rhythm Section: conductors cues in rhythm section playing 4/4 swing and changes of 8 bar D minor 8 bar Eb minor , tenor sax continues solo over these changes, rhythm section begins a fade after a few minutes and this section fades out, conductor cues in brass ostinato section , conductor cues in sax ostinato and rhythm section ostinanto, these 3 ostinato lines are being played simultaneously, this becomes the accompaniment to a trombone solo_the sections then stop and start these ostinato parts on cue of conducto , till conductor eventually invites one player at a time to improvise, leading to entire band improvising, using their previous information to develop their improvisations_gradually louder to triple forte, then a sudden cut-off, this leads directly to a drum solo. End of drum: solo conduction counts in 4/4 section of full ensemble swing section 16 bars to fermatta held note,this fermatta is cue for unaccompanied alto sax solo_end of sax solo conductor cues in last section of piece,a Monkish type melody 32 bars,alto continues solo over this section,melody ends one note staccato figure for full ensemble. |
