Intro Section:This piece is a nine bar ballad, using repetition (round) of the 9 written bars, it has three phrases, 3 bars each. Each phrase used as a background for soloist , phrases cued by the conductor. Conductor has freedom to have band,or any section of band play, any one of the three bar phrases or all nine bars behind the soloist. Full Ensemble:First time full ensemble very soft muted brass, mallet drums, and very soft woodwind on first round of the 9 bars , repeat, then bass solo conductor then brings in various sections of the band playing first phrase , second or third phrase or entire 9 bars as background to the soloist. 2nd soloist piano and conductor does same w/background third soloist sax_ conductor does same w/background volume builds_4th soloist trumpet_on last two choruses full ensemble plays all nine bars ff on last chorus full ensemble FFFF to the end, fermatta! A strong dramatic piece with much tension and release. This piece builds with each round from pppp to FFFF. |
